10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's

CARBONDALE – Sopris Lodge at Carbondale Senior Living will host Lisa Paige, Volunteer Community Educator from the Alzheimer’s Association, to present “10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s” on Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 3 p.m. MT.

Based in the Roaring Fork Valley, Paige helps families understand the difference between normal aging and Alzheimer’s and to identify common warning signs. This educational program will focus on what to watch for in yourself and others and highlight the importance of early detection, the benefits of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis as well as next steps and expectations for the diagnostic process.

“We know families travel a lot in the summer, and when your parent or loved one is home alone it can be challenging,” said Stephen Hook, executive director of Sopris Lodge. “A respite stay offers a comfortable place to recover from an injury or hospital stay as well as provides families peace of mind while they are away.”

Respite care services at Sopris Lodge include a fully furnished apartment and onsite daily care and assistance with daily living tasks for both memory care and assisted living. Key services include personal care, transportation, nutritious meals, medication management, housekeeping, and a 24-hour emergency call system. In addition, the temporary stay allows the individual to participate in all the daily activities in the community. Respite stays are a minimum of one week, but can be arranged for longer periods.

Sopris Lodge at Carbondale to Host “Christmas In July” Community Food Drive

CARBONDALE – Sopris Lodge at Carbondale announced it will partner with LIFT-UP to host a “Christmas in July” community food drive benefiting individuals and families in Carbondale from July 1-14.

The public is invited to bring donations of non-perishable food items (no expired items) to Sopris Lodge, located at 295 Rio Grande Avenue. Donations will be accepted daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at a designated drop-off in the front lobby, which is located at the retirement community’s main entrance. Dr. Lieberman will discuss how people living with serious illnesses can benefit from palliative care, which focuses on relieving the symptoms and stress of illness and improving the quality of life for individuals and their families. He will also address common questions and misperceptions and explain how to access these specialized medical services.
