What living options are available at Sopris Lodge at Carbondale Senior Living?
Sopris Lodge is a full-service senior living community offering independent living, assisted living and memory care residences. This allows our senior residents to have comfort, and they can get the care they need when they need it without having to move. We also offer short-term and temporary respite care along with the Day Retreat at the Lodge program for seniors living with memory loss.
What floor plans are available at Sopris Lodge?
Our independent living residences feature a choice of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments – complete with high-end finishes, walk-out balconies/patios, washers and dryers and modern technologies. The assisted living residences feature studio and one-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes and walk-in or wheel-in showers. The Sopris Sanctuary memory care neighborhood offers private studio apartments in a comfortable, safe and secure environment. All our floor plans are private.
How big is Sopris Lodge?
Sopris Lodge’s intimate community features two buildings with 74 apartments, consisting of 27 independent living residences, 23 assisted living residences and 24 memory care suites. The comfortable size of the community has been a positive feature for seniors and their families.
What is the age requirement to live at Sopris Lodge?
Sopris Lodge is for seniors aged 55-plus.
Where is Sopris Lodge located?
Set in the picturesque Rocky Mountain town of Carbondale, Colorado, and nestled between the historic destinations of Aspen and Glenwood Springs, Sopris Lodge is within walking distance of historic downtown Carbondale. It is also adjacent to the Rio Grande Recreational Trail and True Nature Healing Arts Center. We are located at the base of majestic Mount Sopris, resting in a broad valley defined by the confluence of the Crystal and Roaring Fork Rivers. With a strong arts and music community, the town embraces its mining, ranching, skiing, and resort identities, and has also become an attractive place for sustainable businesses.

Is housekeeping included in rental fees?
Yes, housekeeping is provided to all independent living, assisted living and memory care resident apartments.
Is laundry included in the rental fees?
Laundry service is provided to all assisted living and memory care residents. Independent living resident apartments are equipped with in-unit washers and dryers.
What is included in the rental fee?
Our base monthly pricing includes three gourmet meals served restaurant-style in the dining room, housekeeping, utilities (except phone), basic cable and Wi-Fi, scheduled transportation, maintenance, 24/7 emergency call system, concierge service, access to onsite salon, library, fitness rooms, daily activities, wellness programs and entertainment. And for our assisted living and memory care residents, additional care services like medication management and help with activities of daily living are provided.
Does Sopris Lodge have an entrance fee?
Yes, our non-refundable community entrance fee helps offset administrative costs.
Do I pay for utilities?
No, they are included along with basic cable and internet. Phone service is not included in apartment rental fees.
What other fees are not included in the base rent?
The community entrance fee, second-person fee and pet fees are not included in the monthly rent. Covered parking and storage lockers are available for an additional charge as well.
Do you charge extra for care?
We offer four levels of care for assisted living residents, which are in addition to the monthly base rent. Our memory care apartment fees are all-inclusive with no additional charges for comprehensive resident care.
Do you have on-site parking?
Yes, we have a free parking lot on-site for residents, team members and guests. Covered parking is also available for a monthly charge.
When is the Day Retreat program at the Lodge open?
The Day Retreat program at the Lodge is available for seniors living with memory loss from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday with half- and full-day options for care. The half-day option includes up to four hours of service. The full-day option is anything beyond four hours of service.
Is there a minimum stay required for Respite Care?
Sopris Lodge provides quality respite care solutions with a minimum required stay of seven days. Our fully furnished apartments and resort-style community make a perfect respite retreat for seniors recovering from injury or needing a place to stay while their families travel.
Do your apartments have kitchens?
Our independent living apartments feature full-size kitchens with stainless-steel appliances and quartz countertops. Our assisted living apartments feature kitchenettes giving residents flexibility to enjoy meals in the privacy of their own home.
Can I opt out of meals?
Sopris Lodge hosts three dining rooms as well as a bistro serving an all-day menu, where residents can enjoy healthy, gourmet meals. Three daily meals and snacks are included for all residents. Independent and assisted living residents also have the choice and flexibility to cook in the privacy of their own home, or if they prefer, dine with friends.
Are pets allowed?
Yes. Sopris Lodge is a pet-friendly community.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Sopris Lodge is a private pay retirement community and does not accept Medicaid or Medicare. We do accept some long-term care insurance and VA benefits like Aid and Attendance. Contact our sales team at 970-678-0057 for more information.
Does Sopris Lodge offer caregiver support groups?
In partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, Sopris Lodge offers an in-person support group for families, spouses, and caregivers of those living with Alzheimer’s or related dementia. The Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregiver Support Group meets at Sopris Lodge on the second Tuesday of each month at 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Are caregivers on-site 24/7?
Team members working in our assisted living and memory care community are on-site 24/7. We also offer 24/7 emergency call systems in our independent and assisted living apartments and emergency alert pendants are available upon request.
Are there on-site therapy services?
Sopris Lodge offers reminiscence therapy that engages the five senses. To support residents with medical needs, we facilitate access to speech, occupational and physical therapies. Additionally, we help coordinate meditation, aromatherapy and massage services.
Does your team receive special training?
Team members are trained in person-centered care and we lean on the Montessori principles of a supportive environment, valuing and validating residents, engaging their senses, and encouraging connection through long-term memories.
What amenities do you offer?
Our campus features private dining rooms, lounges and a hearth room with two-story fireplace. Residents have access to an onsite bistro, salon, fitness room, library and game room. Outdoors we have a therapeutic hot tub, greenhouse, raised flower beds, courtyards, patios and a propane fire pit. Covered parking and storage lockers are also available.
Do you have a secure memory care community?
The Sopris Sanctuary memory care neighborhood includes a secure building, locked living space and outdoor courtyard to facilitate free, safe navigation for fresh air and walking.
What programs do you offer for memory care?
The Serenity Peaks Program enhances resident life through elements of many respected approaches to memory care. We also offer a Day Retreat program at the Lodge for seniors living with memory loss who need help during the day but continue to live at home.
How do you determine level of care and how often do you update?
Individual care plans are crafted in concert with caregivers, family and residents. This plan is developed upon moving into Sopris Lodge and is adjusted as an individual’s needs evolve.
